Why Apple Is Better Than Windows and Linux

(Column) – No matter what your personal feelings may be on the Get a Mac and Switch campaigns, you have to admit that they seem to be working very well for Apple, and Firefox has also apparently learned a thing or two from what Apple has done. Ever since these campaigns were added to the marketing train, Apple has been seeing better adoption of its hardware and OS X. They demonstrate that simplicity and creativity go a long way, and this has encouraged the people behind some big budget campaigns to reevaluate their approach. Now, Apple may have a good grasp of this PR technique, but the question is – would it work well for Windows and Linux?

First of all, even if Microsoft never ran another Windows ad campaign ever again, it’s not like people would suddenly forget about the OS. Windows is everywhere, and that’s just not going to change. I don’t care if you’re a Mac or Linux user – chances are that you’ve used Windows before, and it was likely the first operating system that you were a daily user of until you switched. Finding a Windows user who’s never experienced OS X or Linux before is a lot easier than finding a Mac or Linux user who’s never experienced Windows.
