Apple: Computers are sooo last year

The computer business just isn’t what it used to be, as Apple Inc. is quick to acknowledge. Although the company brags about igniting the “personal computer revolution in the 1970s,” earlier this month Apple dropped the “Computer” from its name to reflect its increased focus on consumer electronics.

And rightfully so. Sales computer sales are slowing and profits are dwindling. Companies such as Dell Inc. have seen margins on PCs deteriorate, partly the result of steep discounts, and partly due to slowing consumer demand. Apple isn’t having an easier time at it than any of the other players.
